Released in 1977 by Philco-Ford, the Telejogo was the first video game console manufactured in Brazil. Inspired by first-generation gaming systems like Pong, Telejogo brought digital entertainment to Brazilian homes at a time when video games were still a novelty in the country.
The console had a simple, integrated design, with built-in controls on the device itself. It offered three basic games: Tennis, Soccer, and Wall, all based on the ball-bouncing mechanics similar to Pong. Game selection and movement control were done through rotary dials.
The Telejogo was a milestone in Brazil’s gaming history, being widely distributed and introducing many people to the world of video games. Its success led to the release of Telejogo II in 1979, which featured more games and improved controls.
